The Chelsea Art Museum seeks to showcase the unseen arts of the 20th and 21st century, with a focus on exploring a wide range of experiences in many cultures and areas. It is also is home to the Miotte Foundation, an organization designed to help preserve and archive the work of Informel Artist Jean Miotte, an important figure in America's post-war renaissance. The museum contains the works of many European Informel artists and American abstract artists, including Mitchell, Motherwell and Riopel, in addition to a growing collection of rare books and sculpture. The museum is located a block south of Chelsea Waterside Park, in the increasingly hip Chelsea District.
